IPL: Mumbai Indians takes on Royal Challengers Bangalore in opening encounter

Chennai: The 14th edition of Indian Premier League, the professional Twenty20 cricket league, begins today with Mumbai Indians opening their title defence against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chepauk grounds in Chennai.

The epic battles in this edition of the IPL are scheduled to be held at six venues including Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, New Delhi, and Kolkata. The final will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 30th.

Last year, raging concerns over the Covid-19 pandemic led the teams to travel to the United Arab Emirates.

This year, the IPL game has returned to the domestic venues while stringent safety protocols have been put in place in all the stadiums. This is the first time an IPL series begins in about six months from its previous edition.
